i chanced upon a campaign in acres.org.sg ...

it goes like this...

"
Campaign to Free the Sharks at Parc Palais Condominium
Campaign introduction
In February 2006, Acres received a call for help from a concerned member of the public about a shark being kept in terrible living conditions at the Parc Palais condominium on Hume Avenue. We were informed that the large shark was confined in a small tank next to the swimming pool and that the tank was so small that the shark could not even turn around.

Acres investigated this case on the 22nd of February and found a two metre long nurse shark in cramped conditions, with the length of the shark being longer than the width of the tank.

Nurse sharks in the wild inhabit home ranges of a few hundred square kilometres. The tank the shark is living in at Parc Palais provides only approximately 0.000000047% of its natural home range.

I think the mgt of Parc Palais is insanely crazy!
simply wonder where those ppl put their brains...

And so, i went on to sign their online petition...

anyhoo, this campaign has been ongoing for at least 2 years, and i wondered if any actions have been taken by AVA or those nincompoops. nevertheless, hope efforts by the public can give them some pressure.

talking about sharks...what comes to your mind?

few weeks ago, my mom told me that there are some shark fins in our kitchen and she planned to cook them one day. i urged her not to buy any in future...

daughter: i will try not to eat anymore shark fins. and i hope i can avoid eating them in restaurants, though i know many will give me the puzzled look.

mom: aiya, sharks are brutal marine animal. see...they attack human.

daughter: but human beings catch them and cut off their fins. then, throw them back to the sea. that's cruel. how can they swim without their fins...and they will just bleed to death.

the argument still went on...

mom: if human beings don't kill them, the shark population will increase and will bring threats to the marine lives as well.

daughter: but that's still cruel. big fish eats small fish...that's food chain, isn't it? and the killing of sharks is ongoing, but how many times do sharks prey on human? this so called chinese delicacy is made up of tasteless shark fins, and i believe many enjoyed the soup itself more than the fins (which can be substituted?)

mom: ... ...

If the buying goes on, the killing goes on...
